Introduction to Neck Liposuction

For women, a slim chin is equated with beauty and grace, whereas for men, a firm jawline exudes strength and confidence. Neck liposuction is one of those plastic surgery procedures that can have life-changing and dramatic results, yet also has the advantage of minimal downtime. For those with large necks or double chins, neck liposuction is a relatively simple means of reducing excess fatty neck tissue and revealing the slim, firm neck beneath. Even physically active patients may be unable to reduce this extra tissue through regular exercise, which is where the contouring qualities of neck liposuction come into play. At Celebrity Plastics, Dr. Michael Keyes offers Neck Liposuction in Miami, FL as an effective way to get rid of the stubborn fat that traditional exercise has difficulty reaching. To learn more about this liposuction technique, please continue reading the information below.

What is Neck Liposuction?

Neck Liposuction, or Neck Contouring, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses liposuction to reduce the double-chin appearance and provide you with a smoother, firmer, and more defined jawline. It is meant for necks with superficial fat, not necks with skin issues or subplatysmal fat. With neck liposuction, patients can have a sculpted, more shapely neck that can enhance the overall look of the entire face.

The fat-removal procedure can be performed in the office using one or two tiny, well-hidden incisions under the chin. It is occasionally combined with energy sources such as ultrasound to help with more fibrous tissue or to improve skin tightening since heat and sound waves can both break up unwanted fat cells and encourage collagen production.

What’s the first step?

If you are interested in a Miami Neck Liposuction, the first step is to meet with our Patient Care Coordinator who will listen to your aesthetic goals and help you decide if this procedure is best for you. If you would like to go forward with this procedure, they will then help you schedule your consultation with Dr. Michael Keyes.

When you come in for your appointment, you will be able to ask any questions about the procedure, address your areas of concern, and learn about potential options to help you achieve your desired aesthetic goals.

Dr. Keyes will examine your chin, neck, and the rest of your face, as well as ask you questions about your lifestyle and medical history. Please be completely open and honest when having any part of your discussion. The information you provide will help prevent unnecessary risks and achieve the best possible outcome.

Once you have discussed every aspect of your surgery, Dr. Keyes will create your surgical plan. If you are satisfied with this plan, you will then schedule your procedure with our Patient Coordinator. You will be provided with directions to follow that will help make your results as successful as possible.

What to expect on the day of Neck Liposuction surgery

On the day of your Neck liposuction, you will meet with Dr. Michael Keyes once more to review your procedure one more time. He will make the necessary marks that will help guide him throughout your surgery, as well as give you a better idea of what your results will look like. You will also meet with our Anesthesiologist who will administer tumescent local anesthesia so your surgery is more tolerable.

Once you are numb, Dr. Keyes will make 1 cm incisions just underneath the chin and in the creases below each ear lobe. Liposuction is then performed through the incisions with a very thin rod called a cannula that is connected to the suction machine and passed evenly throughout the treatment zones. The cannula will be used to suction the stubborn fat.

Once he is finished, Dr. Keyes will close each incision with one or two small sutures. Gauze pads are placed over the incisions, and a soft, elastic compression garment will be applied to prevent excessive swelling.

This procedure will take approximately one hour to complete but will vary depending on your personal aesthetic needs.

Procedure timeline

Contact

The first step to getting your Neck Liposuction is to contact Celebrity Plastics and schedule a consultation. Before you consult with Dr. Keyes, you will need to meet our Patient Care Coordinator to discuss your aesthetic goals and eligibility.

Consultation

When you come to Celebrity Plastics for your consultation, Dr. Keyes will evaluate your health and explain which surgical techniques are most appropriate for you, based on the condition of your neck and face. Once cleared by Dr. Keyes you will talk to our Patient Care Coordinator who will pick a surgery date with you after an initial deposit.

Pre-operative preparation

Before your procedure, you will be required to get some labwork performed, such as a blood test and an EKG, to ensure that there are no underlying health issues that create unnecessary risks. We do offer these tests at our facility for a small fee. You should also supplement your diet with high-protein shakes in the days leading up to your procedure. You are also strongly encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which includes quitting smoking and consuming alcohol. You will also need to have your prescriptions filled before your surgical day and bring them in with you.

Surgery

When you arrive, Dr. Keyes and our Anesthesiologist will speak with you to go over the details and answer any lingering questions you may have. Dr. Keyes will also take this time to make any markings he will use as a guide for your procedure before sending you to the Operating Room. Neck Liposuction is commonly performed under
tumescent local anesthesia. Dr. Keyes will make an incision underneath the chin and in the creases below each ear lobe, and use a cannula to remove the stubborn fat. This procedure will take approximately one hour to complete but will vary depending on your personal aesthetic needs. The operation should take about one hour depending on the techniques used.

Recovery

After you are released from our care, you will be able to return home and recover comfortably. You can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild pain during your initial recovery. You will need to continue taking your antibiotics until finished, even if you are feeling better, as well as high-protein supplements. This will ensure you recover as successfully as possible. Moving around as much as possible without causing distress is very important as well, with most patients returning to work and other daily duties within seven to 10 days. You should not exercise or perform any strenuous physical activities for up to four weeks.

Post-operative appointments

The day after your Neck Liposuction surgery, you will need to return so a nurse can observe your initial healing and change any bandages if needed. Dr. Keyes will then have you return about a week post-surgery so he can monitor your recovery and satisfaction. You can expect another appointment about a month or two later, followed by another one three months post-surgery, then again six months later.

Neck Liposuction recovery

After your surgery is complete, we will monitor you in our recovery room until Dr. Keyes releases you that same day. You may still feel the effects of the numbing medication, which is why we encourage our patients to find a family member or friend to provide them with a ride home. Once the medication wears off within a few hours, you can expect to experience a dull aching soreness. Be sure to follow your ERAS pain regimen to minimize your pain.

After the first 24 hours post-surgery, you will be able to remove the compression dressing for the first time. You will be taught how to easily reapply the compression bandage with some foam for an even distribution of pressure. You will need to continue to wear the bandage day and night for about a week, but you can remove it twice a day for 30 minutes to shower and allow your skin to breathe.

Patients are usually able to return to most of their activities the day after surgery as long as they don’t require lifting over 15 lbs., bending over, being upside down, or other types of physical strain. We encourage our patients to begin walking as soon as possible to reduce the risk of developing blood clots.

Dr. Keyes will discuss your potential activity levels after each follow-up appointment.
