What is a Breast Lift?

A Breast Lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure performed to change the shape of a woman’s breasts. During a breast lift, Dr. Keyes removes excess skin and reshapes breast tissue to raise the breasts. You might choose to have a breast lift if your breasts sag or your nipples point downward, and a breast lift might also boost your self-image and self-confidence. Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show breast lifts have grown 70% since 2000, outpacing breast implants 2-to-1.

It is important to note that a breast lift surgery does not significantly change the size of your breasts or round out the upper part of your breast.

What are the benefits of a Breast Lift?

There are a number of reasons a woman might choose to get a Breast Lift in Miami. Some of the benefits include:

  • Firmer breast appearance
  • Rejuvenated look
  • Improvement of physical health
  • Improved nipple projection
  • Improved self-confidence
  • Greater satisfaction with clothing appearance on the body

Each patient is looking for their own desired outcomes, which you can discuss with Dr. Keyes before deciding to get a breast lift. He can assess your case and explain some of the benefits you can expect to see.

Who are the best candidates for the Breast Lift procedure?

Breast lift surgery is a highly individualized procedure. You should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image. You may be a candidate for a Miami breast lift surgery if:

  • You are physically healthy and maintain a stable weight
  • You do not smoke
  • You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts sag or have lost shape and volume
  • Your breasts have a flatter, elongated shape or are pendulous
  • When unsupported, your nipples fall below the breast crease
  • Your nipples and areolas point downward
  • You have stretched skin and enlarged areolas
  • One breast is lower than the other

Talk to Dr. Keyes and book a consultation to determine whether you are the right candidate for a breast lift in Miami.

What’s the first step?

The first step to getting a breast lift in Miami is to schedule a consultation session. During this session, Dr. Keyes will explain what breast lift surgery involves. He will assess your desired outcomes and determine whether you are the right candidate for this procedure. Your consultation session is also your opportunity to discuss any concerns or questions you have.

Upon completion of the assessment, our Patient Coordinator will be able to confirm the price for your surgery and provide you with instructions on how to make your procedure more successful.

What to expect on the day of Breast Lift surgery

On the day of your surgery, when you arrive at our clinic you will fill out paperwork before being taken into the procedure room to be prepped for surgery. Dr Keyes will walk you through the process so you know what to expect, based on the plan discussed in your consultation.

The first step will be to administer a type of anesthesia that will numb you, eliminating pain and discomfort. The second step is to make the incision around the areola to make way for the lift. The third step is reshaping your breasts. The underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve breast contour and firmness. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural, more youthful height. If necessary, enlarged areolas are reduced by excising skin at the perimeter. Excess breast skin is also removed to compensate for a loss of elasticity.

The final step is to close the incision and apply a bandage or gauze. After your breasts are reshaped and excess skin is removed, the remaining skin is tightened as the incisions are closed. Some incision lines resulting from breast lift are concealed in the natural breast contours; however, others are visible on the breast surface. Incision lines are permanent, but in most cases will fade and significantly improve over time.

The procedure typically takes 2 to 3 hours. You can go home on the same day.

Contact

The first step to getting your breast lift surgery is to contact Celebrity Plastics and schedule a consultation through our patient coordinator.

Consultation

During your initial consultation Dr Keyes will examine your breast shape and assess the type of surgery you will need. He will explain the potential risks, and ask you what your goals are so that you can come up with a realistic plan together. He will also explain the process of the surgery and what it involves.

Pre-operative preparation

Before your surgery, Dr. Keyes will give you a set of instructions to follow. This may include fasting for a certain amount of time avoiding blood thinner medication and getting lab work done. Dr. Keyes may also advise you to get a mammogram before surgery and another one after surgery to help detect any future changes in your breast tissue.

Surgery

On the day of your surgery, you will be asked to fill out consent paperwork when you arrive at the clinic. Then Dr. Keyes will administer a type of anesthesia to minimize any pain. The first step will be to make the incision, usually around the areola. The second step will be to reshape the breasts according to your plan. Finally, he will close the incision, and prepare you for your recovery.

Recovery

You will be given a medical support bra to wear, and your breasts will be wrapped in a bandage. A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect. You will also be given information on post-surgical pain medication, and how to monitor your incision and treatment site daily.

Post-operative appointments

Dr Keyes will require you to come in for a follow-up appointment a few weeks after surgery so he can monitor your progress. He will assess whether it is safe to remove the bandages or stop wearing the support bra. He can also advise whether you can resume physical activities and go back to work.

Breast Lift Recovery

After a breast lift, your breasts will likely be covered with gauze and a surgical support bra. Small tubes might be placed at the incision sites in your breasts to drain any excess blood or fluid. In the first few days after a breast lift, take pain medication as recommended by Dr. Keyes.

Avoid straining, bending, and lifting. Sleep on your back or your side to keep pressure off your breasts. Dr Keyes will advise you when it’s OK to resume daily activities, such as washing your hair, showering, or bathing. Keep wearing the surgical support bra round-the-clock for 3 to 4 days. Then you’ll wear a soft support bra for 3 to 4 weeks. While you’re healing, keep your breasts out of the sun. Afterward, protect your incisions during sun exposure.
