What is an Arm Lift?

An Arm Lift, also known as Brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the upper arms by reducing excess skin and fat. It addresses common concerns such as sagging skin and loss of firmness that can occur due to factors like aging, weight fluctuations, or genetics.

Arm Lift surgery in Miami, FL, is typically performed under general anesthesia, and the duration of the procedure can vary depending on the extent of correction required. With our Arm Lift, we combine the artistry of plastic surgery with a personal touch that’s as warm and inviting as Miami’s sun-kissed shores. Our mission is to empower your confidence, ensuring that you not only look your best, but feel your best as well. Let’s embark on this journey together, embracing beauty and self-assurance that reflects the unique energy of your own celebrity in our great city of Miami.

What Are the Different Types of Arm Lifts?

Every patient has their own unique needs based on their cosmetic journey, which is why Dr. Michael Keyes has trained and practiced the following different techniques for addressing loose skin and excessive fat in the upper arms.

Lipo on the Arms

Liposuction is a very popular cosmetic procedure and while it’s commonly used to get rid of excess, stubborn fat in the stomach and mid-section, under the skillful hands of a cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Michael Keyes, it can be used to help permanently remove fat in the arms. As the least-invasive technique to contour the upper arms, Liposuction on the Arms also has minimal scarring and a shorter recovery time.

This approach is primarily used to address the fat in the arms, which tends to leave loose, sagging skin if there is poor skin elasticity. This approach is better for younger patients or those with good skin elasticity in the upper arms, allowing for smoother and slimmer contour results.

Hidden/Minimal incision Brachioplasty

A Minimal Incision Brachioplasty is a less invasive approach to a Traditional Arm Lift that can still address excessive loose skin. Dr. Keyes will create an incision in your armpit for limited scarring visibility, with most patients finding this procedure to be relatively painless during their recovery. Lipo on the Arms can be used in conjunction with this technique to remove excess fat, but we recommend this for patients who have adequate skin elasticity and minimal excess skin.

Traditional Brachioplasty

A Traditional Arm Lift is used to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arm, followed by tightening the skin for a more pleasant arm shape. Dr. Keyes will make an incision along the underside of the upper arm beginning at the armpit and continuing down to the elbow. Unfortunately, the nature of this technique does leave a more significant-looking scar.

Extended Brachioplasty

An Extended Arm Lift is typically utilized for patients who have experienced massive weight loss because it goes beyond what a Traditional Brachioplasty can do. Not only will it address loose skin and excess fat, but also sagging that appears on the side of the chest, further improving the appearance of the upper arms. When Dr. Keyes performs this technique, he will need to make an incision under your arm that extends from the elbow up to the chest wall, which does leave a more extensive scar.

Fish-incision Brachioplasty

Similar to a Traditional Arm Lift, a Fish-incision Brachioplasty addresses both the remaining excess skin and fat after extreme weight loss. What makes these two techniques so different is the shape of the incision and the resulting scar. Rather than making a straight incision like the traditional approach, Dr. Keyes makes an “S-shaped” cut along the bicep, making it practically invisible from front and back views. The Fish-incision is best for patients who prefer to have a scar in the inner arm rather than the bottom portion of the upper arm.

Crescent Brachioplasty

A Crescent Brachioplasty, also called a “Mini-Arm Lift”, is an Arm Lift technique that is best for patients who have minimal fat and skin from traditional weight loss. The approach gets its name from the “crescent-shaped” incision made near the armpit, hiding the scar in your arm’s natural folds. Compared to a traditional brachioplasty, the scars are shorter and do not extend towards the elbow.

Arm Lift Recovery

Following your Arm Lift procedure at Celebrity Plastics in Miami, FL, you can expect a recovery process that combines personalized care and the luxury that comes with a touch of celebrity treatment.

During the initial days, it’s quite normal to experience some swelling and mild discomfort in your arms. Dr. Michael Keyes and his team will provide you with detailed recovery instructions tailored to your unique needs. They will guide you in managing post-operative discomfort, and you may receive prescribed pain medications to ensure a comfortable recovery. Some of these instructions will include Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) therapy to help reduce any discomfort and minimize swelling, and compression therapy to help with swelling and prevent blood clotting.

Your lymphatic system is part of your body’s defense mechanism that consists of an internal network that works to maintain your body’s health. Lymph is the fluid in this system that carries immune cells, proteins, hormones, toxins, and fatty acids throughout your body. Sometimes after surgery, your lymphatic system tends to decrease the efficiency of lymph production, which can result in inflammation and other health issues. MLD stimulates the flow of lymph which hastens the removal of toxins from your body.

Post-op compression therapy is equally important because, after any trauma your body experiences, it attempts to protect itself through inflammation or edema (excess fluid trapped in the body’s tissues). The compression bandage can make the recovery process more successful by reducing the collection of fluid and increasing blood flow. The optimal duration of compression therapy can vary between weeks, months, and even long-term based on the surgery.

Dr. Keyes and Celebrity Plastics prioritize your recovery journey, helping you regain confidence in your arm’s appearance and ensuring you receive the star-quality treatment you deserve. Your arms will gradually reveal their improved contours, and the discomfort will subside, leaving you with results that are nothing short of red carpet-worthy.
