What is a Body Lift?

A Body Lift is a procedure that involves surgery on multiple areas of the body. A body lift improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports skin and fat. Excess sagging skin and fat are removed and the procedure can improve a dimpled, irregular skin surface. Some of the most common areas we focus on during a body’s life are the abdomen, buttocks, arms, and thighs. Common procedures include:

Aging, sun damage, pregnancy, significant fluctuations in weight, and genetic factors may contribute to poor tissue elasticity that can result in sagging of the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. A body lift can tighten up these problem areas that are difficult to maintain through diet and exercise.

What Are the Different Types of Body Lifts?

There are many types of “lifts” out there, but when it comes to the body, there are three areas of focus: the Upper, Middle, and Lower sections.

Upper

As the name suggests, an Upper Body Lift includes any changes in the top half of your body. Some of the more common procedures include an Arm Lift and Breast Lift, but the surgery can also address issues such as fat rolls along your back.

An upper-body lift can be used to treat multiple issues, including excess skin in areas of extreme weight loss or pregnancy, back fat rolls, and sagging breasts. When you come in for your consultation with Dr. Keyes, the two of you will decide if you can achieve your goals by targeting certain areas or if a full upper-body lift would produce better, long-term results.

Mid

Most people find the most problematic area of their bodies to be the mid-section. Even if they can “cut out the fat” with routine exercise and a healthy diet, oftentimes, there’s still excess skin left over that hasn’t snapped back into its original place. A Mid-Body Lift can remove this unwanted skin, and even remaining fat, from the abdomen and lower back, as well as repair any pre-existing muscle damage.

During this procedure, Dr. Keyes tightens the abdominal wall to eliminate your loose skin, making it a fantastic surgery for patients who have creases or tummy rolls. This is a very popular type of lift, especially when combined with a lower lift because it creates a smoother transition from the buttocks to the abdomen.

Lower

A Lower-Body Lift (also called circumferential lift) is designed to address problems in the thighs, hips, and buttocks, and is a very popular area of focus. With these types of lifts, Dr. Keyes will remove excess skin, lift your buttocks, and give you a more shapely contour. Any of the incisions made will be hidden within the bikini or underwear line so the resulting scarring can be hidden by clothing. Lower-body lifts are great for patients who have sagging skin after losing weight or post-pregnancy or have loose and unflattering skin brought on by the body’s natural aging process.

While Lower-Body Lift surgeries offer so many pros for patients looking to improve their appearance, one of their major cons is that they are often the most expensive of the three types of body lifts because they are much more involved and comprehensive surgeries.

Combo Body Lifts

While most patients are only interested in addressing their immediate “problem areas”, Dr. Keyes may suggest a combination of body lifts to address issues throughout the body. A Total Body Lift (a.k.a. Full Body Lift) is more extensive due to the various areas being treated, which also means it requires a longer recovery time, but thanks to the multiple types of lifts, it can give you a natural yet more finely tuned body contour.

What are the benefits of a Body Lift?

Depending on which areas of the body you are looking to focus on, there are a number of benefits to a Miami Body Lift:

  • Toned thighs
  • A flat abdomen
  • Reduction in excess or sagging skin
  • Restore your natural shape

It is important to note that a body lift does not eliminate cellulite, nor is it a weight loss procedure. We recommend consulting with Dr. Keyes to discuss your goals. A body lift may not be for everyone, but we will help you determine how it can benefit you.

Who are the best candidates for the Body Lift procedure?

A Body Lift in Miami can provide many benefits to patients, but it is also not for everyone. It can be especially helpful for women who are postpartum and looking to tighten up some of the most common areas. It can benefit people who have lost weight and need to remove excess or sagging skin. As we age, the skin can lose its elasticity, and a body lift can improve the look of the skin, restoring a youthful look. If you are unsure about whether a body lift is for you, book a consultation.

What’s the first step?

The first step to getting a Miami Body Lift is to book a consultation to talk to Dr. Keyes about your body issues, your most common problem areas, and your desired outcomes. From this assessment, Dr. Keyes will be able to give you more information about how a body lift can benefit you, or whether you are the right candidate. If he determines that you are a viable candidate for this procedure, he will create your procedure plan and our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule your surgery.

Body Lift Recovery

Before you leave our clinic. Dr. Keyes and his team will equip you with information about post-surgery recovery, and the prescriptions you may need during this time. Dr. Keyes may also recommend compression garments, depending on the surgery. It is important to follow post-operative recovery advice to ensure your body heals properly.

One of the major areas of concern include the decreased movement of lymph, a fluid your body naturally produces to deliver immune cells, proteins, hormones, toxins, and fatty acids to the lymph nodes. Essentially, your lymphatic system helps remove toxins and defend your body against infections. After surgery, you may experience some some fluid being left behind causing excessive swelling, which is when you will need to consider a Lymphatic drainage massage to gently manipulate these areas move the lymph to an area with working lymph vessels.

Other areas of concern post-surgery include blood clots (thrombi), which poses as a major risk because they can develop in the venous system due to poor circulation, ultimately leading to further complications such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT). By adhering to our compression therapy recommendations, you can improve circulation and reduce the risk of thrombi and address edema (swelling) and promote venous return through higher compression levels. We will provide you with the necessary compression garments to help you stay safe and healthy until Dr. Keyes advises you when you can leave them off for good.
